One of the most significant landmarks in the city, St. Stephen's Basilica is a Neo-Classical style Catholic church located in the centre of Pest.

History

The church was built between 1851 and 1905. Construction faced significant delays in 1868 after the structure's original dome collapsed, after which the building was rebuilt from scratch.

How to see St. Stephen's Basilica

Of course, you can easily see the Basilica as part of a guided tour. However, we recommend attending one of the basilica's famous organ concerts. You can do both with Civitatis!

Did you know?

St. Stephen's Basilica is the joint tallest building in the country. The building was intentionally designed to share the same height as Budapest's parliament building (314 ft), to represent the equal importance of church and state.
